Westwood International School
Westwood International School, which has been operating since May 1988, began as a grassroots effort in early 1987 among the business, professional and diplomatic communities resident in Gaborone who wished to create and secure places for their children in a quality English-medium school. The founders of the School include:
The American Embassy
The British High Commission
Barclays Bank of Botswana
Sefalana sa Botswana
Inco Holdings
Maru A Pula Secondary School
Debswana Diamond Company
The school operated until December 1992 on a temporary site on a corner of the Maru A Pula Secondary School property. Since January 1993, the school has operated on a 46,000 square metre plot in Gaborone West, Phase IV, along the main road to Lobatse, near Kgale Hill.
The overall purpose of the school is to provide an international standard of education. It is open, to children of all backgrounds. The school community includes children from over 37 different countries with approximately 20% enrolment of Batswana. The school hires a well-qualified and increasingly diverse professional staff from around the world.
